Developed through the company’s CoreNhanced™ BioJourney™ technology platform, CreaSHLD-IN™ is designed to overcome some of the longstanding challenges associated with conventional creatine, including degradation in aqueous environments, particle settling and formulation limitations.
While creatine is one of the most extensively studied molecules in sports nutrition, its incorporation into convenient, ready-to-consume formats has presented significant challenges. CreaSHLD-IN™ used proprietary shielding to preserve creatine integrity during formulation and consumption. The active has been evaluated in aqueous systems and gummy formulations, with a focus on the challenges of incorporating creatine into finished products. In three separate 24-hour evaluations conducted under room-temperature water, hot-water and simulated gastric conditions, CreaSHLD-IN™ maintained creatine content with no detectable creatinine formation under the conditions tested.
“Formulating with creatine requires attention to both chemical stability and particle behavior, especially in beverage and gummy systems,” said Dr. Adam Garland, Chief Science Officer at CoreFX. “CreaSHLD-IN™ uses proprietary shielding technology to limit creatine degradation and improve dispersion within formulations. Our evaluations measure creatine retention, monitor creatinine formation, and assess recovery in finished formulations to enable new innovation.”
In gummy applications, CreaSHLD-IN™ achieved 99% creatine recovery in a pectin-based formulation containing a targeted 23% creatine loading and 100% recovery in a gelatin-based formulation targeting 21% creatine loading. In comparative water-dispersion evaluations, CreaSHLD-IN™ exhibited a more uniform appearance and less visible settling than conventional creatine monohydrate after 15 minutes under identical mixing conditions.
These findings highlight the potential to develop innovative creatine products beyond traditional powders, including convenient beverage and gummy formats.
